Magic 12B Team Weekly Highlights Summer 2011
Magic 12B
Lake Tahoe Tournament - July 23rd and 24th
A trip to beautiful Lake Tahoe was on the schedule, and the Magic 12B team didn't let the gorgeous mountain setting stand in the way of playing its highest caliber softball of the summer season. The Magic played nearly flawless softball going 6-0 this weekend. The ladies outscored their opponents by a total score of 66-6 and won the tournament championship game by a 9-1 final score.
A huge congratulations to all the players and coaches as the team now begins its final preparations for the trip to Nationals. Go Magic!
Napa A Ball Tournament - July 16th and 17th

Having had considerable success at the B level, the Magic 12B team decided to see what it could do in an A tournament. Six games later, the Magic 12B team had five wins and went home with second-place medals.
In fact, it ended up with two B teams in the championship game as the NorCal B champion Belmont Blast won the tournament by scoring in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Magic 4-3 in the championship game.
Ellie Lee was the hitting star of the weekend. She doubled home a run in the first inning of the championship game and reached on an error two innings later in a play that resulted in two more Magic runs. The three runs scored in the championship game were the only three allowed by Belmont all weekend.
Ellie Lee blasted a home run in the first game Sunday. She ended the weekend with eight hits, including a home run, two doubles and five RBI.
Kelsey Johnson had nine hits on the weekend, including two doubles. She also pitched a shutout in an 11-0 win over the Redwood Empire Rug Rats Saturday.
Lizzy Beutter picked up two wins on the pitching slab, beating the Marin Blue Angels 6-3 Saturday and the Vacaville SWOT 4-2 on Sunday in the semifinals. She then tossed five innings in the championship game and left with a 3-2 lead. At the plate, Lizzy had five hits and four walks in the tournament.
Rachel Vlamis had nine hits in the tournament, including a long home run in the semifinal win over Vacaville. Eleni Spirakis had five hits and drew four walks, and she also had two wins as a pitcher, beating the Central Coast Athletics 6-4 Saturday and tossing a three-inning perfect game against the Rug Rats Sunday morning.
Marissa Lee had three hits, including a double in the championship game. Madeline Colombo had five hits. Maddy Crivelli doubled against the Rug Rats, and Maddy Lucey had a great hustling play on defense, covering third base from her left-field position on a sacrifice bunt in the championship game and tagging the runner out for a double play.
Amelia Dunn reached base five times and play outstanding defense in centerfield, and Nicole Prowse and Savannah Green had excellent tournaments as well, with Green picking up a huge RBI single in the semifinal win.
The Magic 12B team is now 25-5 on the summer season with two championships and two second-place finishes.
Branham Hills Thunder Thriller - June 11th and 12th
The Magic 12B team won the tournament championship of the BHGS Thunder Thriller! Congratulations to the Magic players and coaches for another fantastic weekend of softball and their 2nd tournament crown of the summer season.

The Magic 12B came out of the gates on fire, outscoring its opponents 35-1 on Saturday in easily winning its five-team pool. Madeline Colombo was the hitting star on the tournament's first day, collecting 10 hits in 11 at-bats, with three doubles. Lizzy Beutter pitched eight innings and did not allow a run, striking out 15.
In game one, the Magic broke open a close game late and beat the Calaveras Sliders 9-0. Colombo and Eleni Spirakis each had three hits, including a double. Kelsey Johnson, Savannah Green and Maddy Crivelli had two hits each.
Next was the Almaden Lightning, and the Magic bats stayed hot in a 16-1 victory. Colombo had four hits, including two doubles and five RBI. Rachel Vlamis had a double and triple among her three hits, and Beutter had three hits as well. Amelia Dunn and Marissa Lee both had two hits.
The Magic closed out the first day with a 10-0 win against the Castro Valley Synergy. Colombo, Spirakis and Green had three hits each, with Colombo driving in four runs.
Sunday is elimination play, and the Magic opened with the Union City United and coasted into the semifinals with a 14-0 win. Green and Dunn each had three hits, and Colombo had two more hits and scored three runs.
The semifinals featured a rematch with the Almaden Lightning, but this time the Lightning threw a different pitcher and limited the Magic to just five hits while striking out seven.
The Magic grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third when Lee singled to lead off the inning and stole second. Spirakis walked, and with one out, Vlamis singled home the game's first run.
The scored remained 1-0 until the top of the sixth and final inning when the Magic added two important insurance runs. Colombo was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and promptly stole second. Nicole Prowse was then inserted to pinch run for Colombo.
A passed ball moved Prowse to third, and she later scored on a close play at the plate following a wild pitch. Beutter walked and stole second and later scored on a single by Dunn.
The championship game featured the Magic and the Cupertino Inferno, and the game played out the way a championship game should.
The Magic quickly jumped out in front with two runs in the first, but the Inferno came back with one in its half of the first and another in the second to tie the game.
The Magic scored three times in the third, and three more times in the top of the fifth to take what looked like a comfortable 8-2 lead. But the Inferno was up to the task and responded with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it an 8-7 game.
Each team scored a run in the sixth, and the game went to the seventh and final inning with the Magic clinging to a 9-8 lead.
Crivelli led off the seventh for the Magic and delivered a single up the middle to start the inning. Lee bunted her to second, and Spirakis brought her home with single to left. After Spirakis stole second, Kelsey Johnson singled to make it 11-8. Johnson later scored on a double by Rachel Vlamis to make it a 12-8 final.
Vlamis ended the game with four hits and four RBI, including two doubles. Spirakis had three hits, and Johnson, Colombo, Beutter, Green and Lee had two hits each.
Spirakis was the winning pitcher in the championship game, tossing the first five and one-third innings before giving way to Beutter, who closed the game out.
